In a Problem Solving Solo, you work one-to-one with Jennifer, who will introduce you to Pilates and restorative movement principles, Pilates apparatus and foundational exercises. We'll discuss goals, health history and studio policies. You'll learn to move safely and confidently on the apparatus while experiencing a whole body workout unique to Pilates. Most importantly, you'll have fun exploring movement, while becoming stronger, more flexible and confident in your own skin, in a welcoming, supportive, inclusive space!
Solos can be short term: struggling with your Rollup on the Mat? Frustrated with tight hamstrings or grippy hip flexors? Need help making sense of physical therapy exercises? Schedule a solo or two, to help address specific goals or general movement concerns.
Solos can be long term: for students who prefer to work alone, or for someone coming back to a movement practice after an illness, injury or long hiatus from exercise.
Please note: Jennifer is not a medical professional and cannot diagnose or treat any illness, injury or disease. Our work together is meant to support and supplement medical care, not to replace it. Please contact your medical provider if you have any health concern that may affect or interfere with your time at the studio.

Private ZOOM sessions are perfect for students who are not local, are traveling or otherwise unable to get to the studio, but still want to mantain a movement practice. Like in-person privates, we'll discuss your goals, health history and studio policies. If you have Pilates apparatus at home, we can incorporate that. If not, Jennifer can help you gather props you might have at home, and/or supplement with other items (i.e. exercise bands, Magic Circle, bolsters, etc) for a dynamic, personalized, effective home Pilates practice.
You'll be introduced to Pilates principles and foundational exercises, as well as restorative movement concepts, while experiencing a whole body workout unique to Pilates. For Zoom sessions, please have internet access, a Zoom account and a device such as a laptop, phone or tablet for our meetings.

I am a certified Restorative Exercise Specialist (c-RES) with a program called Nutritious Movement, and Restorative Flow is rooted in this perspective. It is, hands-down, my favorite class to teach—if I could teach only one class for the rest of my life, this would be the one. Nutritious Movement is as close to an owner's manual for our bodies as we can get, in my not-so-humble opinion. It offers a clear, precise framework around what movement actually means—and here's the most important part: within our very own bodies. If we really want to do something about our tight hamstrings, or achy feet, or weak core, we need to have more precise definitions about what these things are and how these things function, not just as as an exercise, but how we use (or more likely, don't use) these parts in our everyday activities.
We might do things called the Hundred or Single Leg Circle in Pilates, or Warrior I or downward facing dog in yoga, or we run, or we lift weights, or we move through life by walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, lifting things, putting them down again, with little understanding about how we are doing these things. Each of these bigger movements are comprised of many smaller movements: have you ever thought about your feet and ankles in yoga's Warrior series? Or your pelvis in Single Leg Circle? Or your glutes when you run? Your hands and wrists in a plank? Turns out, those smaller movements have a significant impact on the larger ones, for better and/or for worse.
In Restorative Flow, we get curious. We have fun. We dismantle big movements into their smaller parts, and explore and examine how these smaller parts are working individually, within our own bodies (feet, ankles, hands, wrists, hip joints, knees, spine...). We work toward restoring the strength, flexibility and most important, the resilience, of these forgotten but very essential parts.

Pilates mat work is paradoxically the most accessible and the most challenging of the Pilates system. Join me and explore the OG of the Pilates system, in the spirit of the man who developed it.

In this Reformer/Tower class, you will be introduced to foundational Pilates concepts and Reformer exercises that the rest of the system builds upon: Footwork, Long and Short Box exercises, Long Stretch series, Elephant, Stomach Massage, and more. Please attend at least five Strong Foundations classes before advancing to Intermediate.
If you're experienced on the Reformer and the order, don't let the name fool you—this is your space, too, to refine the foundations and principles of your own practice. The basics become profoundly advanced by layering in principles as precision, concentration and control.
Reformer/tower classes use reformer, tower, mat and other tools for a challenging, creative, mindful movement experience. I teach all my classes with a restorative movement lens—alignment and clarity matter. I follow Joseph Pilates' original order of exercises, along with Pilates concepts of breath, centering, concentration, control, precision and flow to guide the class.
