Traditional Pilates Matwork

Find order in the chaos by creating a strong, flexible foundation with Joseph Pilates's original work.

Pilates mat work is paradoxically the most accessible and the most challenging of the Pilates system. Join me and explore the OG of the Pilates system, in the spirit of the man who developed it.

Mat work is:

  • Revealing: it offers valuable insights into how your whole body is moving today.
  • A guide: it tells us how to proceed with other pieces of the system (the reformer, Cadillac, chair, etc.) to get you to where you want to be: stronger, improve strength, flexibility, confidence and in control of your body (rather than at its mercy) in all aspects of your life.
  • Pure: Just you, the floor and the 34 original exercises described in Joseph Pilates' little instructional manual, Return to Life through Contrology.
  • Can be done anywhere.
  • The ultimate goal of anyone who wishes to know the depth and breadth of Pilates in their own bodies. Pilates matwork is a lifetime practice of curiosity, challenge and self-discovery. Progress, not perfection, is always the guiding light of Pilates. Props are used, not as gimmicks, but to support, enlighten, and progress.
